US Envoy Talks “Eroding” Democracy, Crackdowns, and Biden Administration
U.S. Ambassador to Cambodia W. Patrick Murphy sat down with VOA Khmer’s Aun Chhengpor for an interview about the state of democracy and human rights in Cambodia. He said that Cambodia’s fledgling democracy has been eroded recently and that he urged Prime Minister Hun Sen’s government to “do just the opposite.” He also discussed U.S. intent to assist Cambodia’s 2022 chairmanship of ASEAN, as well as other long-standing issues of deportations and debt taken during the Lon Nol regime.
