Disagreements Divisive, Necessary in Asean Integration, Analyst Says (Cambodia news in Khmer)

Shortly before the 45th anniversary of the founding of Asean, on Aug. 8, the groups members for the first time failed to reach a joint statement during a security meeting in Phnom Penh. In this first “SoutheastAsia Corner” segment, Chheang Vannarith, executive director of the Cambodian Institute for Cooperation and Peace, says the disagreements will impact Asean’s integration, but that they are an important milestone in the organization’s evolution. In a Skype interview from Geneva, he further discusses the importance of regional integration and lessons from the European Union with VOA Khmer’s Soeung Sophat.
