Khmer Rouge tribunal officials have ordered parties to file submissions in preparation for the second phase of a trial against two aging leaders of the regime.

The date for the opening of the second phase has not been set, but the Trial Chamber says it wants submissions on the fitness of the accused, ideologue Nuon Chea and former head of state Khieu Samphan, to stand trial, as well as submissions on the proposed scope of the trial.

Tribunal spokesman Lars Olsen said the call for filings demonstrations the case is “moving ahead.”
