The Sam Rainsy Party Condemns the Detention of Two Union Leaders - 2005-01-20

The Sam Rainsy Party and the Cambodian Center for Human Rights Thursday condemns the detention of union members Thursday in Phnom Penh.

A local union leader at Su Tong Fang garment factory and the president of the garment factory workers' union, Mr. Chea Mony were taken to the police station during Thursday's clash between police and the peaceful garment factory workers.

Both men say they were held and questioned for five hours before being released.

Mr. Chea Mony says police warns him not to organize any more protest.

But the union leader said he will continue to speak out for the union members.

Police denies Mr. Chea Mony's claim by saying that they only conducted a routine questioning.
