NGOs Push for Anti-Corruption Law - 2005-01-10

Several Cambodian non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are urging the government to pass the anti-corruption law as soon as possible.

President of the Cambodian Center for Human Rights (CCHR) Mr. Kem Sokha said in order to combat corruption effectively, government officials, parliamentarians and senators have to declare all their properties and sources of income.

President of the Center for Social Development Ms. Chea Vannath said the corruption law would not be effective if the rich and the powerful are excluded.

Cambodian government said it's working on the draft bill and is hoping the bill will be sent to the parliament sometime this year
