Cambodia Unveiled New Billboard to Combat Human Trafficking - 2004-06-01


Cambodia unveiled last Thursday the first of a series of billboard aiming at informing trafficking victims ways they can escape brothels and embark on new lives.

Minister of Women's and Veterans' affairs, Mrs. Mu Sochua, said in Poipet, Banteay Meanchey province, the aim of launching this billboard is to help young victims of trafficking escape from prostitution.

Bernard Krisher, head of a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in Cambodia, said most of the victims are from very poor families.

Victims are given contact information for local NGOs that pleged to pay their debts and provide them with vocational training to help them start a career.
