The president of the Cambodian Independent Teachers Association, Mr. Rong Chhun, said the Free Workers Union and his association plan to send a petition to King Norodom Sihanouk asking the Monach to intervene in their request to construct a memorial for the famous union leader who was gunned down in broad daylight in Phnom Penh.
Mr. Rong Chhun said a Phnom Penh court has turned down the Union's request to build Chea Vichea's statue in the park near the newsstand where the union leader was killed on January 22, 2004.
