Police showed the suspect on Friday and told reporters that after the arrest, Tiem (Men) Vatana, 44, had confessed that he was the caller, and that police had discovered the telephone that the subject used to make the call.
Tiem Vatana told police he made the call on the order from the Secretary-General of the Sam Rainsy Party, Mr. Eng Chhay Eang who gave him US$100 on July, 23, 2003. Mr. Eng Chhay Eang told VOA he had never met Men Vatana.
