The United States has condemned Thursday's attack that killed Pakistani opposition leader Benazir Bhutto.
State Department spokeswoman Julie Reside says the attack on Bhutto shows there are still those in Pakistan who will go to extremes to derail political reconciliation and democracy in the country.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned the attack and called on authorities to ensure stability in the country especially during the election period.
Ms. Bhutto was killed in a gun and bomb attack after a rally Thursday in the city of Rawalpindi. Police say a suicide bomber fired shots at Ms. Bhutto as she was leaving the rally before blowing himself up.
