Heng Pov's Daughter Fears for His Safety

Heng Pov's daughter says she is concerned about her father's safety after having learned that the Cambodian government is putting pressure on ASEAN governments to not allow Heng Pov to make transit stops on his way to Finland.

Pov Vanna told VOA Khmer by telephone that the pressure could put her father's life in danger if he is unable to leave Malaysia for Finland, which granted a visa for him.

She claimed that she was informed by a senior Malaysian official about the pressure.

Former Phnom Penh police chief Heng Pov, who defied Malaysian immigration law, was ordered to be deported from Malaysia last Friday.

However, it is not clear whether he would reach Finland or has to return to Cambodia which has found him guilty of serious crimes.

It's not clear when Heng Pov is going to be deported from Malaysia but Cambodian Ministry of Interior spokesman Khieu Sopheak said that this case is going to the Malaysian Appeal Court.

Pov Vanna is urging the international community to closely monitor this case.
