Khmer Democratic Journalist Association Urges for New Murder Investigations

Khmer Democratic Journalists Association calls the Phnom Penh court to re-open the investigations into the murder cases of six journalists who have been killed since 1994.

The appeal comes after the Phnom Penh court reviewed the case of the attempted murder of Thong Uy Pang, editor of Koh Santepeap Journal. The journal complained to the court about the case in 1998.

Phnom Penh chief justice did not comment on the association’s request saying that he is at the funeral of a relative. Ouk Savuth, Phnom Penh chief prosecutor said he could not comment on the request because he was busy.

Spokesman for the Interior Ministry Khieu Sopheak said the cases are still open today.

Opposition party lawmaker Keo Remy said the call to investigate the murder cases is timely as the government is showing willingness to end the culture of impunity.
