Cambodia Probes World Bank Aid Corruption


The Minister of Economy and Finance says Tuesday that the Cambodian government starts probing the World Bank aid corruption case of $7,6 million in 3 projects after the Bank discoverd irregularities in contracts and misuse of funds, and asking for a refund.

Minister of Economy and Finance Kiet Chhon told reporters at the Inter Continental hotel in Phnom Penh that the Minisry of Parliamentarian and Senatorial Relation and Inspections starts the investigation, but he declines comment.

Minister of Parliamentarian and Senatorial Relation and Inspections Ms. Men Sam An cannot be reached for comment.

Prime Minister Hun Sen warned in the past that he will not tolerate corruption and will remove those who are found to be involved in corruption cases.

Opposition party members ask for the punishment of corrupted people in the court of justice.

Country Manager Cambodia on behalf of the Development Partners on Public financial Management the World Bank Group, Ms. Nisha Agrawal declines comment.
