Cambodia Chips in to Help Indonesian Victims

Cambodia Tuesday joins the international community in donating money to its ASEAN partner, Indonesia, even though it is one of the poorest countries in the world.

Last week Indonesia was struck by a strong earthquake that so far killed more five thousand people and has wounded thousands of others. The quake left tens of thousands of people homeless.

The Cambodian Red Cross Society (CRCS) on Monday wrote a letter of condolences to Indonesia, and donated $5,000, according to Cambodian Red Cross Society director in charge of relations Ms. Men Neary Sopheak.

Ms. Men says Cambodia works in joint effort because in a disaster the international community appeals for help, and Cambodia is also a member of the international community.

Opposition party high ranking official and former Minister of Women's and Veteran's Affairs Mu Sochua welcomes Cambodia's contribution but also appeals to the CRCS to give to poor Cambodians as well, especially to women and children
