Cambodia Says Chinese Aid Won't Influence Khmer Rouge Trial

Cambodian government officials deny ideas that the 600 million dollars aid from China to Cambodia is to conceal China's involvement with the Khmer Rouge regime.

The aid package is given to Cambodia during Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao's recent visit to Cambodia, at the time when the Khmer Rouge tribunal is underway.

The aid is for the construction of bridges, of a cabinet building, hydraulics, and other fields.

Government spokesman Khieu Kanharith says that this aid will not have any influence on the Khmer Rouge tribunal, because the Khmer Rouge tribunal law says that this trial will not be done for any countries involved.

He says that the government is not dumb enough to wait for the aid from China that will come after the tribunal.

He says that China is not the only country that was involved with the Khmer Rouge regime, and that there were other countries, including the U.S.
