PM Hun Sen and MP Sam Rainsy Agree on Parliamentary Committees


Prime Minister Hun Sen and opposition leader Sam Rainsy agreed to have Sam Rainsy party (SRP) legislators have a role in parliamentary committees in Cambodia.

Now all SRP 24 lawmakers have no role in the parliamentary committees since the National Assembly convenes for its third term.

Mr. Sam Rainsy says that in his meeting with Mr. Hun Sen Sunday, the prime minister agreeds to have members of parliament from the SRP work in the parliamentary committees. This procedure will be formal after Mr. Sam Rainsy and prince Norodom Ranariddh, National Assembly's president meet Tuesday.

Mr. Sam Rainsy says that, he and the prime minister agreed in principles. The National Assembly has 9 parliamentary committees, and the National Assembly's presidents and vice presidents are lawmakers from the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), and the royalist FUNCINPEC party.

The parliamentary committees' presidents are from the CPP with five committees, and the FUNCINPEC party has four committees.
