A top military court official dismisses U.N. allegations about an opposition party activist sentence being against national and international laws.
The U.N. working group's statement this weekend says that Mr. Cheam Channy's detention is not legal and that the military court has no jurisdiction over him. Mr. Cheam Channy is opposition Sam Rainsy Party's senior legislator.
Major General Ney Thol, military court director and judge told VOA that his sentence is in effect and permanent, and that this demand is not sound.
He says that if his sentence is not fair, the defendant can appeal and take the case to the Supreme Court.
