NGOs Form An Alliance For Freedom of Expression

The Cambodia Center for Human Rights (CCHR) and about 40 NGOs unite to form an Alliance for Freedom of Expression in Cambodia to strengthen the civil societies' power.

The alliance was formed following the government's arrests of Mr. Mam Sonando, owner of Beehive FM 105 radio station, and Mr. Rong Chhun, president of the Independent Cambodian Teachers Association .

CCHR president Kem Sokha who came up with the idea said his center prepares 50,000 yellow ribbons for students, workers, peddicab drivers, motorcycles' drivers and government workers who love freedom of expression.

Mam Sarin, chairman of the association for Transparency and Peace, which is a part of the alliance, said NGOs need to unite to stand up to the government.

Chairman of the government human rights committee Om Yintieng said the goal of the alliance is the same as the goal of the government which is to protect freedom of expression.
