Legal Experts Concerned about Rights to Peaceful Protest

Cambodian legal experts say they are concerned that the government is violating the rights to peaceful protest guaranteed in the constitution.

Heang Thirit, the president of the organization to enforce the rules of law, said the constitution guarantees the rights to peaceful protest.

Recently the ministry of the interior gave permission to anti-Sam Rainsy protesters to hold a peaceful protest against the opposition party leader.

But the government refuses to allow any protests against the government.

A government official disagrees with the claim saying that the government has the rights to deny permission to protest to ensure public order.
