ITGLWF Reacts

The International Textile, Garment and Leather Workers' Federation. with 220 affiliated organisations in 110 countries and a combined membership of 10 million workers, pushes the Cambodian government to bring Chea Vichea's real murderers to justice. Chea Vichea was a prominent Free Trade Union of Workers' leader.

In a press release on August 2nd, ITGLWF warned the Cambodian government that the two men, Born Samnang, 24, and Sok Sam Oeun, 37, convicted of murdering Chea Vichea, and serving jail sentence for 20 years, are not the real culprits.

Born Samnang, and Sok Sam Oeun alledged that police coerced them into confessing to the crime.

Chea Vichea was well known for his open attacks against the corruption in the government.

Former King Norodom Sihanouk, in his letter to the accused families, said that their sons are not the real killers.

ITGLWF General Secretary Neil Kearney, wrote a letter to Prime Minister Hun Sen saying that the court sentence proves the country can not be credible, and that there is no transparency in the judicial system.

In his verdict, Judge Kong Saet said police gave appropriate evidence in their investigation.

Prime Minister Hun Sen's top advisor Om Yintieng was reluctant to comment on ITGLWF's reaction, but said that he has not seen the letter yet.
