Cambodian National Assembly Opens Its First Session in Early August - 2004-07-28

The acting President of the National Assembly said the new parliament will open its first regular session in early August.

Mr. Heng Samrin said the parliament will form the nine parliamentary committees soon. Five committees will be headed by the Cambodian People's Party, while the remaining four will be given to the FUNCINPEC party.

Mr. Heng Samrin said the elected members of the parliament who have a position in the executive branch have to give up their seats in the parliament.

The new national assembly will also be expected to take up two issues: the WTO membership and the Khmer Rouge tribunal.
