Prince Ranariddh Appointed Royal Adviser

Prince Norodom Ranariddh, once the chief rival of the prime minister who returned to Cambodia from exile this year, has been named a royal adviser to King Norodom Sihamoni.

Ranariddh, who founded the his own, eponymous party after leaving Funcinpec in 2006, will be “Supreme Advisor,” which carries “ the same rank as prime minister,” Chea Chanboribo, an aid to Ranariddh, said.

Ranariddh left politics earlier this year, following a pardon by the king at the behest of Prime Minister Hun Sen, of a graft count and prison term.

His Norodom Ranariddh Party, which won two seats in July’s national election, is now run by Chhim Seak Leng.
