Cambodia and Laos to Tighten Control along Borders - 2005-02-16

In a meeting between Prime Minister Hun Sen and Lao Deputy Prime Minister, Cambodia and Laos have pledged to tighten control along their borders.

Cambodia's Foreign Minister Hor Nam Hong who attended the meeting told reporters the agreement aims at curbing drug and log trafficking between the two countries.

Hor Nam Hong said there was also a discussion about the implementation plan for the tri-state development agreement that was discussed earlier in Siemreap between Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam.

The UN Anti-Drug coordinator in Cambodia, Ghaham Shaw, said drug trafficking from the producing countries using Cambodia as a transit ground to the third countries is rising at an alarming rate.
