World Food Program Grants $64 Million in Aid

The UN's World Food Program announced Thursday it would grant the government $64 million over the next two years to fund projects in emergency food as well as aid to mothers and children.

The government matched the donations with a promise to provide 2,000 tons of rice to the program.

World Food Program representative Thomas Keusters said such donations in foodstuffs have immediate effects and help spur other programs.

Foreign Minister Hor Namhong welcomed the money, but Sam Rainsy Party Secretary-General Eng Chhai Eang questioned the motives of the government's rice donation.
