A high ranking U.S. Embassy official in Phnom Penh agrees with Cambodian government's decision when it rejected the U.S.' request to send troops to Iraq, saying the U.S. will surely respect this decision.
Embassy spokesman Jeff Daigle says that, whether or not Cambodia is going to participate in any kind of peace operations is for the Cambodian government to make and the US certainly respects whatever decision it makes regarding those issues.
Mr. Hun Sen rejected this unilateral and unofficial request from Ambassador Joseph Mussomeli who asked him to consider sending troops for humanitarian reasons.
Mr. Hun Sen said that the Cambodians hav already suffered from years of war.
