China's foreign minister Wang Yi on Thursday held a meeting with foreign ministers of ASEAN countries in Beijing amid strained ties due to maritime territorial disputes. In a resort hotel in Burnei, defense ministers from the region discussed regional and international security issues with ministers from the United States, Japan, China, South Korea, India, Russia, Australia and New Zealand. The issue is expected to be a major focus of the agenda in Beijing. It is also high on the agenda in Brunei, where regional defense chiefs are meeting with their counterparts from China, the U.S. and other countries. But a breakthrough is seen as unlikely.
