A group of opposition lawmakers were kicked out of a hearing at Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Thursday. The case involved several opposition activists, who are being tried for their involvement in violent demonstrations in July. But the judge asked several lawmakers to leave the courtroom, claiming they were not involved in the case and could therefore not be present. Critics say the move was a violation of their rights to be present at a public hearing.
The 5th annual Earth and Sky Photo Contest is a collaborative effort by the National Optical Astronomy Observatory and Global Astronomy Month, a program of Astronomers Without Borders. Families forced to leave the Phnom Penh neighborhood of Borei Keila say they are now facing a second threat as more and more people move into their Kandal province relocation site. The site, at Phnom Bath mountain, is 50 kilometers outside the capital and lacks clean water, electricity, health care facilities and school. Residents at the site now say it is becoming overcrowded.
