Opposition Party Appoints New Female Secretary General

The Sam Rainsy party (SRP) Monday officially appoints former Minister of Women's Affairs Mu Sochua as its new secretary general.

The post was vacant for nearly two years after former secretary general Eng Chhay Eang resigned.

SRP president Sam Rainsy says Mu Sochua is qualified for the job because she has a lot of experience in politics.

Ms. Mu Sochua pledges to fulfill her duties faithfully for the party's victory in next year's local election.

FUNCINPEC secretary general Nhek Bun Chhay says he welcomes SRP's newly appointed secretary general.
