Gary Benham headed the EU delegation that met with Cheam Channy on Wednesday. Cheam Channy has been detained in prison since his immunity suspension on Feb. 3, 2005.
He is a member of the Sam Rainsy Opposition Party. The delegation did not give any details about the meeting. The only information released was that the delegation visited Cheam Channy to inquire about his welfare.
An English diplomat who talked on condition of anonymity said that the delegation did see Cheam Channy. Another diplomat said the EU is worried about the detention and is trying to find out about the truth behind his custody, which the EU is monitoring.
A team of lawyers who also went to visit Cheam Channy today said that his health is good and that he was very happy to have seen the delegation.
