Putting the final stamp of approval on a process that took months of negotiation, the National Assembly on Thursday voted in the new structure of the National Election Committee, the government body that oversees voter registration and elections. The former NEC was widely criticized for political bias toward the ruling Camboodian People’s Party. The new NEC is comprised of nine members in all, four each selected by the ruling party and opposition and a final member agreed upon by both. The new president of the NEC will be Sik Bunhok, a CPP lawmaker. The vice president will be Kouy Bunroeun, a lawmaker for the Cambodian National Rescue Party.
