Both the Republican and Democratic parties of the US are to hold their conventions in coming days, where each side will officially announce their presidential candidates. The run-up for the conventions has already seen extensive campaigning by both President Barrack Obama and his Republican opponent, Mitt Romney. But the conventions are major gatherings for each party ahead of the final push toward the November election. The Republicans will hold theirs in Tampa, Florida, Aug. 27 through Aug. 30, followed by the Democrats, in Charlotte, North Carolina, Sept. 4 through Sept. 6.
