The Yakjin Trading Corporation, a South Korean company whose factory was at the center of major demonstrations earlier this year, has begun a review of its operations.
With the help of international labor experts and the Garment Manufacturers Association in Cambodia, the review is questioning garment workers, witnesses and other senior staff, to determine what happened during a Jan. 2 strike that left 20 people injured and 10 others arrested.
GMAC Secretary-General Ken Loo said the review is under way, but its results will not be made public.
Chea Mony, president of the Free Trade Union, welcomed the review.
Some factories have in the past hired security guards to beat striking workers, and such reviews can prevent these kinds of incidents in the future, he said.
