PHNOM PENH - Cambodia says it is willing to cooperate with Taiwan after authorities there seized 80 kilograms of heroin on a fishing boat from Cambodia.

Seven people were arrested in the operation Monday, one of the largest heroin hauls for Taiwan in the last decade, officials said. The boat was seized in the Bashi Channel, between Taiwan and the Philippines.

Cambodia has no diplomatic relations with Taiwan, but Interior Ministry spokesman Khieu Sopheak said Cambodia has “good relations” with China and Taiwan and will cooperate with Taiwanese authorities. Cambodia follows a one-China policy.

“We are happy to cooperate with joint investigations with those countries who suspect that heroin is coming from Cambodia,” he said.

Khieu Samon, chief of the ministry’s anti-drug police, said he had not received official information on the bust.
