SRP Criticizes Coalition Government - 2005-04-06

Members of the Sam Rainsy Party (SRP) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) criticize the coalition government for not including the opposition party in the special working committee to amend the constitution to reduce the quorum in the parliamentary sessions.

SRP and NGOs support the idea of reducing the quorum to 74 from 87 but said the opposition lawmakers should be included in the committee.

A committee chairman from FUNCINPEC party said any party can initiate a proposal to amend the constitution as long as it has the support of 33 lawmakers.

The chairman said when it's time to vote on the proposal, the whole house will be able to vote and that no one will be excluded.
