Opposition Lawmaker Chea Poch on VOA Call-in Show 2-28 - 2005-02-28


On the "Hello VOA" program today Opposition lawmaker Chea Poch said he is in the United States to seek America's support and in the Khmer community support for the opposition party.

Chea Poch, whose parliamentary immunity was stripped on Feb. 3, appeals to National Assembly President Norodom Ranaridh to think and work for the sake of Cambodia and its people.

Chea Poch and his colleague Sam Rainsy was sued by FUNCINPEC in a defemation lawsuit. Both left Cambodia after the National Assembly voted to strip their immunity.

Another opposition lawmaker, Cheam Channy was accused of organizing an illegal army to topple the government. He was arrested on Feb. 3 and is in the military court's custody ever since.

Beside answering listeners' phone calls, Chea Poch said the way to improve the situation in Cambodia is to reform the judiciary system.
