Supreme Court Upheld Chhouk Rin's Life Sentence - 2005-02-16

The five-member Cambodian Supreme Court has upheld the Appeals Court's conviction of former Khmer Rouge commander Chhouk Rin for the 1994 abduction and murder of Australian backpacker David Wilson, Briton Mark Slater and french Jean-Michel Braquet.

Chhouk Rin denied that he led or ordered the abduction and killing, but the Cambodian Appeals Court in November 2003 upheld his lower court convictions on charges of terrorism, robbery and murder that sentenced Chhouk Rin to life in prison.

Diplomats and relatives of the victims attended Wednesday's Supreme Court hearing.
