The Sam Rainsy Party Will Boycott Opening Session of National Assembly Thursday - 2004-07-07

The Opposition Party says it will boycott Thursday's opening session of the National Assembly.

In a press conference at the Sam Rainsy Party headquarters Wednesday, Mr. Sam Rainsy said his party will not attend the opening session because he said the block vote and the hand-raising vote are unconstitutional and also because the King has threatened to abdicate.

FUNCINPEC president, Prince Norodom Ranaridh, told reporters it's fine if the Sam Rainsy Party decides to stay out because it reflects the nature of democracy at work.

CPP spokesman, Mr. Khieu Kanharith, said the opening session will take place as planned whether the Sam Rainsy Party will participate or not
