The Sam Rainsy Party Held a National Meeting on Women's Roles in Politics - 2004-06-22

Cambodia's only opposition party, the Sam Rainsy Party (SRP), recently held a national meeting to set up an executive office to restructure the women's role and involvement in Cambodia's politics both on the local and national level.

Mrs. Thak Lany, a newly-elected SRP member of Parliament told the meeting that in order for Cambodian women to ask for equality with men they have to ask themselves if they have equal qualifications.

She said the most important factors are education and ability. Mrs. Tioulong Saumura, another SRP member of Parliament and wife of the SRP president Sam rainsy said since Cambodia has more women population than men, her party has a mandate to close the ability and skill gap between men and women
