A New Cambodian Government Could Be Formed in Two Weeks - 2004-06-03

The Cambodian People's Party and the FUNCINPEC party say the political deadlock could end soon and a new coalition government could be formed in two weeks.

FUNCINPEC president Norodom Ranariddh and Prime Minster Hun Sen of the Cambodian People's Party both said separately that the new government could be formed in mid June.

The two leaders met for four hours Wednesday to resolve the remaining five issues.

The US embassy in Phnom Penh reacts cautiously to the positive development in Cambodia's politics. The Embassy spokesman told VOA the US hopes Cambodian leaders work together to end the deadlock and move forward quickly for the sake of the countries.
