CPP Replaces Two FUNCINPEC Cabinet Members - 2004-05-05

High-ranking FUNCINPEC members said the Hun Sen government replaces at least one cabinet member from the FUNCINPEC Party today.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the FUNCINPEC officials confirmed the replacement of the Minister of Justice with a Cambodian People's Party (CPP) member.

The officials said the CPP action is illegal because there was no 2/3 approval from the parliament. CPP spokesman Khieu Kanharith confirmed the appointment of two acting ministers from CPP for the ministry of justice and ministry of education.

Mr. Kanharith said the two FUNCINPEC ministers no longer attend the regular cabinet meetings therefore it is necessary to appoint the two acting ministers so that they can attend cabinet meetings.
