A Phnom Penh Court Gives FM 90 to a New Owner in a Hurry - 2004-02-16

A Phnom Penh court decides to transfer a pro-FUNCINPEC radio station to a new owner in a hurry.

The new owner Mrs. Keo Sothea was given the right to take over FM 90, 6 days after she had filed a petition to claim back the station she said rightfully belongs to her late husband Mr. Chhim Van Sithong.

However, Mr. Lay Chhum Sareth, the legal owner of the station, said he has all the legal rights to the station when he bought the property from the late Mr. Chhim Van Sithong after Cambodian prime minister Hun Sen had allowed the station to open.

Mr. Kem Sokha of the Center of Human Rights airs his programs 6 hours a day on FM 90. The program is now interrupted.

FUNCINPEC is said to be forming a committee to look into the court decision.
