President of the Teachers Association Refuses to Go into Hiding - 2004-01-30

The president of the Independent Teachers Association, Rong Chhun, rejected the suggestions that he goes into hiding, after his name had been mentioned by the Opposition leader Sam Rainsy as being included in the CPP hit list.

He said he is not surprised to hear the list because he knows he is being watched by agents who come to investigate in his office by using threatening language.

In a similar developments, the president of Khmer Student-Intellectual Association, Men Nath told VOA he received telephone threats, and he has reported the incident to the United Nations High Commissioner, and the U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh.

A number of Cambodian people and students found similarities between the Pol Pot regime and the Hun Sen regime: Pol Pot considered the khmer intellectuals as ennemies, and the Hun Sen regime hunts down the pro-democracy people who cares about Cambodian interests.
