Forty Four Poor Families Are Struggling After Losing Their Homes - 2004-01-27

After their houses were burned down on January 9, 2004, forty four poor families, who lost their court battle in a land dispute on a lot in Phnom Penh against a wealthy land owner named Mr. Khau Sambath, are struggling to survive in a temporary settlement called "Punliu Pich" in the suburb of the capital.

The women told VOA that since they moved to the new place, their children got sick from unsanitary conditions and water, and from excessive heat.

The men said the families have not received the US$200.00 compensation promised to them by Mr. Khau Sambath.
