UNDP Goodwill Performer Visits Cambodia

Misako Konno, a Japanese actress and essayist and the UNDP's Goodwill Ambassador, will visit Cambodia this week, officials said.

Konno will Cambodian Red Cross President Bun Rany, wife of Prime Minister Hun Sen, and other officials to understand Cambodia's development issues, including HIV, AIDS and gender disparity.

She will also visit Siem Reap and Kampong Cham, according to a UNDP statement.

"The government of Cambodia has been praised for its endeavor to nationalize the Cambodian Millennium Development Goals," the statement said, "and the United Nations Development Program works to help the government build a society that is free from hunger, inequality, exclusion and vulnerability so that these goals can be realized."

Konno has also visited East Timor, Vietnam and Mongolia as a part of her current trip through Asia.
