Hun Sen Rejects Thai Terrorism Claims

Prime Minister Hun Sen forcefully denied claims by a Thai general that Cambodian Muslims linked to the Indonesian terrorist group Jemaah Islamiyah had slipped into southern Thailand. Hun Sen said Cambodia was not a haven for terrorists.

Thai General Watanachai Chaimuanwong recently told Thai media Cambodian Muslims were helping fuel an insurgency in the south.

Phnom Penh has called on the government to proof, or redact, its claims.

Cambodia has been a haven for at least one leader of JI, Hambali, who stayed in a Phnom Penh guesthouse in 2002 before he was captured in Thailand.
