World Bank Provides Grant for Electricity Along Mekong

World Bank officials announced Tuesday $33.5 million in grants to Cambodia and Laos for the construction of cross-border power lines linking the two countries to Vietnam.

Cambodia will received $18.5 million to build the lines, which will enable the country to import electricity from Vietnam and lower the price for consumers as part of developments along the Mekong River.

Energy Minister Ith Prang said the government encouraged the development as a cheap source of power for northeastern areas of the country.
