Friday's News Briefs

The United Nations Development Program and Cambodian Television Network (CTN) will launch radio and television programs to provide equal airtime for political parties running in April’s commune elections.

The programs will provide five minutes to each party to broadcast its platform and activities on the last two Saturdays in March, beginning at 7:30 pm. The country’s radio and television stations have faced criticism of CPP bias.***

An advocacy group has petitioned the Cambodian government to intervene in the alleged detention of a number of people of the Kampuchea Krom ethnic group by Vietnamese authorities.

The Khmer Kampuchea Krom for Human Rights Organization sent a letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs following reports that Vietnamese authorities were arresting members of the ethnic group.

The Kampuchea Krom people live around the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam. Neither the Foreign Affairs Ministry nor Vietnam Embassy officials have reacted to the letter.***
