In an extended interview with VOA Khmer Service, FUNCINPEC Secretary General, Nhek Bun Chhay defends the decision made by the party’s extraordinary congress on Wednesday, October 18th saying that the removal of Prince Norodom Ranariddh was within legal guidelines.
Moreover, Nhek Bun Chhay states that according to Article 22 of FUNCINPEC bylaw, the party’s president and or one third of the national council members can call for a party congress.
Meanwhile, Prince Norodom Ranariddh claimed that the actions taken by congress in ousting him was in fact illegal.
