At Least 13 People Are Injured in Grenade Attack in Kampong Speu

At least thirteen people are injured in a grenade attack at a local dance in Kampong Speu province.

Local human rights officials criticize that ammunition is still available to be used to kill one another.

The incident took place in Chambak Pha-Em Village, Roleang Kroeul Commune, Samrong Torng District, Kampong Speu Province, about 50 kilometers away from Phnom Penh.

Phat Kim Hong, an inspector of Samrong Torng District, says a grenade was thrown to the place where amplifiers were located and then the second grenade was thrown when the crowd ran for safe cover. He assures that this incident does not affect public safety as it is more likely a personal dispute.

Roth Thary, investigator of ADHOC to Kampong Speu Province asserts that he is investigating the incident and criticizes that the ammunition is still available in the rural areas and used mostly by powerful people.

Cambodia declares that more than 200 thousand weapons have been destroyed after the civil war, but people are still concerned about the remaining weapons.
