U.S. Reaction on Jurists Selection for Khmer Rouge Tribunal

The U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh, Cambodia is cautious in its judgement of the judges and prosecutors for the Khmer Rouge tribunal.

The eigth members of the Supreme Council of Magistracy, and King Sihamoni have chosen 17 Cambodian and 13 foreign judges and prosecutors.

VOA has received the list of these names one day ahead of the official selection.

U.S. Embassy spokesman Jeff Daigle says Thursday that all he can say is that the Embassy is hoping that whatever judges and prosecutors are selected by the Cambodian government will be professional, experience, and well trained since they have not made the announcement yet or made the selection public the Embassy reserves any judgement.
