PM Hun Sen Says Prince Ranariddh's Resignation Benefits National Budget

Prime Minister Hun Sen criticizes Thursday his former coalition governmant's partner, saying that Prince Norodom Ranariddh's resignation as National Assembly's president benefits national budget by about 2 billion riels per year.

Prince Ranariddh resigned last week claiming that he will have time to visit the people and strengthen his FUNCINPEC party.

But public opinion has it that the prince may be hurt by Mr. Hun Sen's repeated attacks about FUNCINPEC party's proposal to create too many positions.

These attacks occur after Mr. Hun Sen removed high ranking official positions from FUNCINPEC party, and after the National Assembly voted to pass the 50% plus one formula to form a government as proposed by opposition leader Sam Rainsy.

Mr. Hun Sen made this comment at an opening ceremony of a bridge and a Buddhist temple. FUNCINPEC party has more than 100 advisers.
